Three Google Ads AI features that unlock your ad creative

OVERVIEW

An overview of Google Ads AI creative tools: automatic optimisation for different placements, AI-powered video trimming and voiceover, and generative AI asset creation and image editing in Performance Max and Demand Gen, with eligibility conditions.

In today’s competitive digital advertising landscape, a brand’s success depends closely on how appealing its creative is and how relevant it is to the audience. But producing high-quality creative is not easy. It takes time and people, and it has to fit the formats and audience needs of different platforms.

To address these pain points, Google Ads uses AI to offer smarter tools for optimising, editing and generating creative, helping brands strike the best balance between creativity and efficiency. Let’s look at how Google Ads’ AI creative features are changing the way ads are made.

1. Automatic AI creative optimisation for different ad placements

In today’s multi-platform, multi-device digital environment, ad creative must be highly adaptable so that it looks its best in every format. Google Ads’ AI automation features make this simple.

  • Video auto-trimming: AI analyses elements such as the story and sound in a video and automatically cuts out the key moments, so that even a shorter video keeps its core message. This is particularly valuable for short-form video ads such as YouTube Shorts.
  • Flip video: when a video needs to fit different devices and placements, AI can automatically change its orientation, keeping the frame complete and undistorted. Ads switch seamlessly between landscape and portrait.

Autogen video: no video assets? No problem. AI can use a brand’s existing images, text and other elements to produce a video, giving advertisers high-quality video creative in a short time.

With these AI automation tools, brands no longer need to worry about format conversion. Provide the basic assets, and AI will adapt them for you.

2. AI-powered creative editing: smart trimming and voiceover for more engaging ads

As well as optimising creative automatically, Google Ads offers AI-driven editing features to make ads more precise and appealing.

  • Trim video: brands can set a suitable video length based on their marketing goal or ad format, then have AI tighten the video to that length so the core message stands out, ensuring the ad does not lose viewers’ attention by running too long.

  • AI-generated voiceover: can’t record a professional voiceover? AI can help. Just provide the script and AI generates the voice automatically. In our own test, Chinese voiceover is already supported, with a choice of male or female voices. The feature also supports multiple languages, making it easy to take ads to global markets.

These features make creative production simpler, so advertisers can focus on ideas instead of spending a lot of time on technical details.

3. Generative AI creation in Performance Max and Demand Gen

Generative AI is not just a future trend. It is already a productivity aid for brands. Google Ads has introduced AI asset generation in both Performance Max and Demand Gen, offering a more flexible way to create ads.

  • AI-generated text and images (asset generation in Performance Max and Demand Gen): with AI, advertisers can quickly generate copy and images that match their brand tone, greatly reducing production time, and can test different versions immediately to find the best performer.

  • AI image editing: this feature lets advertisers quickly retouch images, adjust details and even remove unwanted objects, polishing creative and improving its visual appeal.

This does more than save time. It gives advertisers unprecedented creative freedom to adjust and optimise ad creative at any time for the best ad performance.

This feature is not yet available in Taiwan. To enable generative AI features, the Google Ads interface and website must meet the following conditions:

  1. Advertiser requirements: use the Google Ads interface with the language set to English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish.
  2. The website must not be subject to the following restrictions:
  • Sensitive categories, such as pages related to politics, government, health, religion, sensitive or restricted products, or other sensitive topics.
  • Website language not supported, that is, not English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish.
  • The URL is a recently published website that is not yet eligible.

AI-powered creative for better performance and ideas

From smart editing to AI-generated assets, Google Ads’ AI-powered creative features are changing the rules of digital marketing. These technologies make ad creative more adaptable and efficient, and let brands create highly engaging content at lower cost.

For marketers, this means no longer being limited by the time and cost of traditional creative production. They can test and optimise faster and find the best-performing ad strategy. AI is not just a helper but an important partner in improving marketing performance.

Now is the time to let AI upgrade your ad creative and get ahead in the digital market.
