GA4 app tracking in practice: how CloudAD helped One-Forty build app analytics and dashboards

OVERVIEW

One-Forty, a non-profit that provides education for migrant workers, needed to understand how people use its learning app. CloudAD turned its goals into GA4 events, connected deferred deep links and built a dashboard the team can read on its own.

About One-Forty

One-Forty is a non-profit dedicated to education for migrant workers. Through language learning, cultural courses and online platforms, it helps migrant workers adapt to life in Taiwan. To extend its educational impact, One-Forty launched its own learning app, aiming to offer a more convenient learning experience.

The challenge

Education apps face particular data challenges as they grow reach and engagement. Compared with e-commerce or social apps, learner behaviour is more varied: signing up, viewing materials, completing courses and giving feedback. Every step holds insight, and every step makes tracking more complex.

One-Forty’s app showed these challenges clearly. The team found it hard to choose which metrics described the learning journey and engagement. Data was spread across GA4, the app back end and third-party platforms, so integration and analysis kept breaking down. Most team members did not have a technical background, which made reading data and working with developers harder and slowed down marketing and content decisions.

After an earlier GA4 website project, One-Forty worked with CloudAD again, this time on the app: from clarifying goals to tracking, data integration and dashboard design, building an app data tracking and insight system so the team can truly work in a data-driven way.

Three stages to app insight

Stage 1: turn business goals into trackable behaviour

CloudAD first helped One-Forty define what it wanted to learn from app data, such as course engagement, conversion sources and where users drop off, then translated these goals into GA4 event logic.

Question GA4 event design
Which courses are most popular? Course click, play and completion events
Where do users drop out of the learning flow? Interruption events
Which marketing sources drive the most downloads? Conversion events integrated with deferred deep links

CloudAD also wrote a tracking specification so marketing and engineering could agree on requirements and implementation, creating a tracking setup that can be verified and traced back.

Stage 2: connect and verify data from GA4 and third-party platforms

In our experience, many apps lose the trail when they promote to new users:

A user who has not installed the app clicks a promotional link and is sent to download it. After installing, the app opens on the home screen, the user has to find the content again, and interest fades.

This makes it hard to connect each promotion with actual conversions, and potential conversions are lost, which in turn affects how the marketing team judges performance, plans content and runs ads.

To close the gap, CloudAD recommended deferred deep links (DDL) and ran the following process:

  • Recommending a DDL platform and writing the technical documentation
  • Connecting GA4, the DDL platform and the app back end
  • Designing test and validation steps to confirm data arrives correctly

With systematic integration and validation in place, the team can see ad conversions as they happen and adjust campaigns.

Stage 3: visualise the data and build the team’s capability

To speed up decisions and spare the team from learning every platform’s interface, CloudAD built a custom Data Studio dashboard that brings together GA4, DDL and app data and highlights:

  • Clicks and engagement hotspots for each course section
  • Return visits and stickiness over time
  • Campaign sources and download conversions
  • Drop-off and completion rates in the learning flow

Beyond the tools, CloudAD worked with the team on using GA4 in practice, from core metrics to reading unusual changes, so members could interpret data correctly and speak the same data language across teams. Data became a reliable basis for decisions, supporting One-Forty’s data culture and growth.

Results and client feedback

  • Analysis efficiency up 60%: data from several sources sits in one dashboard, so key metrics are quick to read without manual compiling.
  • Coordination time down 30%: a complete tracking specification lets marketing and engineering work together effectively.
  • Stronger team insight: One-Forty’s team can now read GA4 data on its own and find opportunities to improve.

“From choosing metrics and building tracking to reading the reports, CloudAD helped us bring scattered data together, so every course and campaign now has clear evidence and a next step.”
